Knee pain hinders everyday chores. Many a times, a minor problem like an irritating knee, can also become a debilitating condition. Dr Sanjay Agarwala, head of orthopedics and traumatology at a well-known hospital in Mumbai says,
"Knee problems have significantly increased over the last few years. Unhealthy diets and lifestyle, lead to increase in weight and poor muscles. To avoid these issues, it is imperative that you have a healthy diet and maintain weight. Keep a food journal for consistency and get adequate vitamin D and calcium."
In recent times, heels have also been reported as a possible cause of knee pain; therefore, doctors ask ladies to avoid high heels and do exercises to keep the condition at bay.
In cases where knee pain has restricted the physical movement of the patients, osteoporosis and on failure of conservative management, a total knee replacement can be an effective option to bring life back on the track, state doctors.
"Knee pain is surely a serious problem which greatly affects overall quality of life. Therefore, it is important to take preventive measures. Also, one must make sure to report any type of knee problem to an expert rather than becoming your own doctor,"
says Dr Pankaj Bajaj, medical director and chief orthopedic surgeon at a hospital in the city.

If calcium intake is lower, then your body leaches calcium from bones in order to maintain blood calcium levels for other physiological purposes, dangerously weakening bones.
