The force exerted by the blood against the walls of the blood vessels is known as Blood Pressure. The cardiac output and the resistance of the blood vessels form the major factor in determining the blood pressure. High blood pressure is a major threat to health.

 

The risk factors of hypertension include obesity, intake of too much alcohol, smoking and family history.

 

Here are few possible health consequences of hypertension, when left untreated:

 

1. Heart and coronary arteries will get damaged: This might lead to heart attack, heart disease, arthrosclerosis, congestive heart failure, aortic dissection etc.

2. Stroke

3. Kidney damage

4. Memory loss

5. Angina

6. Vision loss

7. Fluid accumulation in the lungs

8. Erectile dysfunction, etc.
