From 1866 when the founder, Dr. John Scudder started SMH with the God given Vision, to the present day, SMH has been growing both in numbers and services rendered to the people.

Today, SMH serves over 150 inpatients and 250 outpatients daily, with over 8 wards, 15 clinics each day and 20 other departments / sections.

As a teaching institution SMH trains Nurses and Allied Health (X-Ray, Laboratory, Medical Records) workers with a high degree of technical competence to serve with love and compassion in the spirit of Christ.

SMH is unique in being not only one of the pioneering Health Care Institutions in the country but also as an institution which reaches out to the practical needs of the poor through low cost inpatient wards and outpatient clinics in the slum areas of Ranipet town with concessional or free care for the most needy.

SMH is committed to the Rural Health and Development Projects in the Yegambaranallur, Walaja and Arcot areas. SMH regularly conducts Free Rural Clinics, Free Medical Camps and Health Awareness Programs to enhance their standard of living and the general physical and economic well being.
