Dr. Harley Rram Hospital in Madurai was started as an evening consultation and TB sanatorium by Dr. Harley, the then District Medical Officer, in the 1920s. It is one of the oldest hospitals in the city of Madurai, with services being continued by Dr. Ramasubramanian and Dr. Ramachandran. In 1973 the baton was handed over to Dr. R Venkatasamy, Honorary Professor, Department of Surgery at Govt. Erskine Hospital, Madurai. Prof RV was one of the first surgeons in the city of Madurai and the first doctor from Cumbum Valley. Harley Rram Hospital continued its surgical and societal services under his helm. It became a speciality hospital in 1982, with the arrival of Dr. RV's son Dr. V Ramesh (Consultant Urologist), and daughter-in-law Dr. Savithri (Consultant Gynaecologist).
