Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, popularly known as GITAM, was founded in 1980 by an inspired group of eminent intellectuals and industrialists with the objective of promoting a world-class institution of higher learning in diverse fields of professional education. GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research established for admitting 150 MBBS students annually to give world class training. Initially, it is operational with 360 beds with all basic specialities like Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Opthalmology, Paediatrics, Dermatology, ENT, Psychiatry, Pulmonology, Physiotherapy etc. There are 05 Nos. of operation theatres to cater to the needs of various specialities. The out-patient departments are run by qualified specialists. The emergency medicine and trauma departments are working round the clock. It is adequately equipped to deal with all emergencies. The Intensive care unit is well equipped with monitors, ventilators and other supportive systems for giving necessary treatment to the critically ill-patients. The well established and state-of-the art central clinical laboratory and modern blood bank facilities are available for handling all types of elective and emergency medical and Surgical problems. The Hospital will be upgraded to a full fledged 850 beds teaching hospital with all basic and super speciality departments to take care of tertiary medical problems.

GIMSR is endowered 24 hours Central Laboratory under the supervision of qualified Pathologist, Micro-biologist and Biochemist for all routine and special Hematological, Serological, Micro Biological and Bio-chemical tests. The Radiology department is provided with X-ray machines of 600 MA, 400 MA and two mobile x-rays (100 MA and 60 MA) supported by two Ultrasound Machines. Ambulance services (2 Nos.) are made available at Hospital premises round the clock (24 x 7).
