The Franciscan Clarist Congregation is an offshoot of the great missionary order started by St. Francis of Assisi in the 13th Century A.D. The FCC Congregation was started on 14th December 1888 at Changanacherry, Kerala. By the year 1960 the FCC which grew and flourished in the various dioceses of Kerala began to branch out into the mission areas of North India. The FCC Congregation started its first Mission Center in North India in the Archdiocese of Agra in 1960 and extend its overseas Mission in 1976 in Germany. Now the FCC has 24 Provinces (13 in Kerala and 11 Outside Kerala) and 2 Regions. The FCC Sisters are engaged in various apostolic activities such as health care, social upliftment programmes and education both in India and abroad. Through the different Apostolates the FCC sisters across the world strive to create a Just and Sustainable Society where everyone is enabled to experience the fullness of life. A small seed which was sown in 1888 sprouted up and grew into a big tree dispersing its seeds not only in India but also in countries like Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, USA, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and Papua New Guinea.
At the request of late Rev. Bishop Joseph Rosario M.S.F.S the then Bishop of Amravati who felt the need of a hospital for the poor and needy people of the area as well as the poor residents of the town itself who could not afford the costly treatment of the hospitals and clinics in the town, invited Franciscan Clarist Congregation to start a Hospital in Amravati. Responding positively to the invitation a team of sisters came to Amravati to start a hospital. The Diocese made available to the sisters a large-sized bungalow, called ‘Hurricane Hall’, with a compound attached to it. The sisters used half of the building for their residential purpose and the rest of the building was prepared to start a hospital. On 1st January 1986 the 4- bedded Dayasagar Hospital was inaugurated by Dr Mudaliar, the senior most surgeon of Amravati city together with Mr Thomas a blind destitute of the Missionaries of Charity and the hospital was blessed by Rt. Rev. Bishop Joseph Rosario. Dr SrLissy Jose FCC, MBBS MD is the first doctor and first Medical Superintendent of Dayasagar Hospital. The pioneer members of this hospital are Sr Silas, Sr Juliet, Dr SrLissy Jose and late SrVineeta.
